SEVEN ALFA ROMEO CARS FOR THE 2024 AFRICA CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE
Spectators at the Africa Concours d’Elegance will see seven rare Alfa Romeo cars contesting the event at the Nairobi Racecourse on Sunday, September 29th. This year’s Concours will be the 52nd in the annual series and will feature a variety of makes and types of cars and motorcycles, with the Alfas leading the grand parade.
Alfa Romeo is an Italian luxury model that has been in production for over 100 years but only a handful of the cars are seen on Kenya roads. The seven Alfas in the Concours will be spread across the touring car classes, the rally and the open sports car categories.
Very rare 1928 Durant latest car entry for Africa Concours d’Elegance
A very rare 1928 Durant car made in America is the latest entry to be received for the 2024 Africa Concours d’Elegance entered by Sachit Shah. The event will celebrate the anniversary of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and is the 52nd in the series. It will be held at the Nairobi Racecourse on Sunday, September 29th.
The Durant Motors Cooperation was founded by Billy Durant in 1921 with the intention of creating an automotive empire which would challenge General Motors. Engines made by Continental were used and saloon car bodies were made by the Budd
Company until Durant closed in 1932.
Massive motorcycle entry for Africa Concours d’Elegance
The Africa Concours d’Elegance which is already nearing the full entry limit of 40 motorcycles will make maximum use of the Nairobi Racecourse parade ring on September 29th for officials to judge gleaming highly prepared bikes from Zimbabwe, Uganda and Kenya.
The event which celebrate the anniversary of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club will be the 52nd in the annual series and this year brings onboard Stanbic Bank as one of the key partners supporting the Concours.
A Rare 1968 Saab 96 is the latest Africa Concours d’Elegance entry
Thomas Frowein a newcomer to the Africa Concours d’Elegance has entered his Saab 96 to compete in the class for small touring cars. This will be the first appearance of a Saab at the Nairobi Racecourse for many years. The 2024 Concours is scheduled for September 29th to celebrate the anniversary of Alfa Romeo Owners Club.
The Saab 96 was popular with rally drivers and was driven most famously by Erik Carlsson. He won the RAC Rally three times and the Monte Carlo Rally twice. This established the reliability and toughness of the car which he also drove in the East African Safari Rally.
OVER 40 ENTRIES ALREADY RECEIVED FOR THE AFRICA CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE
The Africa Concours d’Elegance office has already received over forty car and motorcycle entries for the Africa Concours d’Elegance. The event is scheduled for September 29th at the Nairobi Racecourse and will celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the Alfa Romeo Owners Club.
The Concours has full Africa continental status for cars and motorcycles and has been recognised and sanctioned by the FIM-Africa since 2006.
